A New Book Deal and Guest Blog Post!
The Cool Green Book Deal
I spent the first six months of the difficult year 2020 researching, writing, and sketching. I find that research on flora is both soothing and healing to the soul. My efforts gave birth to a picture book proposal. Cool Green: Amazing, Remarkable Trees has found a home at Candlewick Press.
During my research I learned about Moringa oleifera. It is the most nutrient dense plant among trees with 92 verifiable nutrients! Even thought this miracle tree is a tropical species, I was determined to grow my own moringuita in Maryland. So I planted a seed in February 2020. It sprouted, and grew, and grew, and grew to about four feet during the summer months. I cut the little tree down pruning it severely to force multiple branch growth. It did! By late September I brought my bushier moringuita inside. I’m beyond thrilled that I’ve been able to keep it alive in a sunny corner of my house during the cold winter. I can’t wait to make a salad from its tiny leaves this summer!
Writing for #MetKids
I’m delighted to be part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Illustrator Series.
The Met launched its first visual adventure for children on January 14. Its aim is to encourage young readers to connect with art and experience the galleries in new and creative ways. My article features step by step instructions on making a monoprint, the technique I used for Luci Soars. My contribution will be up at #MetKids blog February 18!
Be well,
