Spring into Earth Month
April is for Cool Green
April brings Earth Day, celebrated on the twenty-second of the month, since 1970. The History of Earth Day states that it “is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.” Arbor Day, now celebrated on April 28, dates back to 1872, when more than a million trees were planted in the state of Nebraska. The Earth Day and Arbor Day organizations have excellent initiatives to preserve and plant trees. Why trees? To answer this question I created Cool Green and Verde Fresco. As an avid gardener, I’m thrilled to share my love of trees with young audiences in the coming months.

Spotlight on Schools
Can you pick out your school?
I love to connect with students and share with them my belief that they can achieve all they can be as long as they persist. I often say to them that if someone who thought of herself as only an artist, became an author of dozens of books writing in a language not her own, they can also overcome. Persistence is the key to your dreams, I say.
